What We Do
Booksustain collects gently used books from the public and donates them to community service organizations, literacy organizations and schools in underserved communities in the Los Angeles area.
Our Mission
Booksustain’s mission is to support literacy advancement and keep books out of landfills.
Our goal is to bring the benefits of reading to children, teens and adults who have limited access to books.
By donating and redistributing used books, we strive to reduce waste and lessen the impact of paper disposal on the environment.
We find new homes for books!
“I wanted to follow up and just say thank you again for the amazing books that you all collected and brought to us at Crescent! I have been able to spread the books across several of our sites. Many of our sites have run out of younger level texts for our Take Reading with You program, and the students were so excited to see new book options for them!”
-Jenna Chaffee Program Director, Reading Partners Los Angeles
“Booksustain delivered to Penny Lane Centers over 520 gently used books…
We have taken their generous donation and distributed them to the many families and individuals that Penny Lane serves. Thank you Booksustian as we at Penny Lane appreciate you.“
- Nydia Barakat Director of Fund Development, Penny Lane Centers
“I want to say thank you for your recent donations of books.
Your generosity will have a profound impact across our organization as these books find their way to various sites, enriching the lives of many. We are truly grateful for your kindness and dedication to our mission.
Thank you once again for your thoughtful donation.”
